  • Volunteers

  • Hello and welcome to the Volunteers page

Medway Adult Education appreciates the dedication, work and commitment that our volunteers offer us and the community. On this page you can find out about courses we offer to our volunteers, connect with other like minded people and find out what is happening.

We offer a range volunteering opportunities, including providing learning support in the classroom, admin experience and marketing. So if you are looking to get some work experience, develop your skills,  or use some you already have please get in touch with Candice Fanning, Learner Services Co-ordinator on 01634 338475 or Candice.fanning@medway.gov.uk

    • To ensure a standardised recruitment, interview and induction process for Medway Adult Education please see the Volunteering Policy.

    • Have you thought about volunteering?

Up to 10,000 local volunteers share their skills

and gain teaching and communication skills.

More are always needed. Additionally many

people with barriers such as visual impairment

or learning difficulties welcome support in

      reading for pleasure.

      Who can get involved?

Anyone with good levels of reading and

counting can get involved. A regular time

      commitment is needed because consistency

is important to our learners, so you will need

to commit to a regular volunteering slot.

  • It is essential that every volunteer who works with us has completed the Safer Working, Safer Learning training. This can be found on safeguarding section of the Medway Adult Education's Moodle website or below. Once you have completed this and the associated assessment, please in touch with Candice Fanning who will then be able to arrange a placement for you. If you go into the Safeguarding area of this site you will find lots more information on a wide range of safeguarding issues and topics.

  • What does volunteering as a learning facilitator involve?

Learning facilitators provide support to learners in the classroom either to individuals or small groups. This support may be targeted to learners who may have learning difficulties and or just to provide general support.

The tutor and learning facilitator normally meet 15 minutes before the lesson begins to discuss the plans for the session and how the tutor would like you to facilitate. Then again at the end of the session so you can both reflect and share information to enable plans to be made for the next lesson.

It is a fun and rewarding experience. You may find that it is a career path you would like to pursue. If you require a reference for further education or work purposes we would be happy to help.

  • Perhaps you are looking to pursue a career in admin, get some work experience or to practice your skills. We may be able to help.

Ideally you will be able to use Word and Excel, frank mail, do filing and other light duties as part of the team.

If you are able to dedicate just a few hours a week on a regular basis then please get in touch.

  • Do you have excellent people skills? Or perhaps you would like to develop them.

Medway Adult Education always welcomes volunteers who would like to help promote our service to the rest of the community. We regularly attend community fun days and events, as well as hosting our own.

Whether it be acting as a tour guide, sharing your experiences as a learner or even encouraging others to attend we like volunteers who have a good understanding of our service to be a part of it.

If you are interested please get in touch with Candice Fanning, Learner Services Co-ordinator, on 01634 338475 for more information.
